Project: Beam Optimization (12/2022)

ur logo.png

This project is one of our small senior design projects in Fall 2022. Our goal is to design and build a Balsa beam structure with highest possible Strength-To-Weight ratio analytically and experimentally.

Project assignment is designed by Professor Christopher Muir. My wonderful teammates are Humfrey Kimanya and Rafael Luna. (Team photo)

Compression load test: Our beam structure failed at 281 lbf with a Strength-to-Weight ratio of 1932. The structure passed the design requirements and specifications. There was a 52% reduction in the S-W ratio between simulation and test.
